Ok,
so much for humor, this page deals with the worst termite
damaged bathroom we have repaired in many years. If you have
not looked at our "normal" water damage shower repair page go
HERE first and then
come back..
Notice the rotted
wood on the window wall. We had to rebuild the wall. Also we
noticed mud trails that went behind the sheet rock, Not a Good
thing!

The right side was also infested and they went on around the
wall. No termites in both closets. If you give them water and
a place to live, you may never see them behind the sheetrock
and that is why paying attention to your shower, tub or
bathtub is your best detection method.

This bathroom was under a
termite control contract and was sprayed regularly. Just
because you have the bug man out, keep an eye on your shower.
The once a year SWARM happens mid April and that's when many
types of bugs spread by winged queens. More than a few flying
ants or termites in your house in April is
the big tip off.

When the home owner was standing by as a witness and also to
tell us how far to remove sheet rock, we started at the top
of the closets and worked around to the side walls. Termites
will move mud and by the amount of damage,
Bekins would have been proud!.
During this time of inspection, I bumped the light and found
some more mud.

The light I
mentioned was a clue to the ceiling mess. We found live
termites up in the top part of the vaulted ceiling. If you
have a bug problem this extensive, spaying the tub area and
out side wall will only kill the ones on the bottom. The
termites in the wall can come back down to start rebuilding
as soon as the next shower is taken and water can be
gathered. I am not a licensed pest agent but after 15 years
of remodeling bathrooms, if you fix any water leak bugs can
not live in the walls. This includes ants, roaches,
fleas,etc.

New framed wall, new P trap and new frost proof faucet
before we set the New whirlpool tub (white) with Gold tube
enclosure. New tile was also installed on the floor.
